What goes out inside the opti?

What goes out inside the opti?
Well i tore my opti open this evening and i seen very lil oil inside. The rotor button was green with corrosion along with the points. Is this normal or? What is it that kills it? Can i sand the corriosoin off and hope it works?

The corrosion is not normal. There can be tracking, crossfiring. The optical part can be dirty or corroded. Gaskets torn let moisture in. Bearings wear. Replace it since you have it off.
