what to do with ruined heads?
I have a situtation. a while back i had an exhaust leak on my driver side exhaust manifold. I later found out that i had a broken bolt on the driver side exhaust manifold which was causing a leak. i took my car to an exhaust shop where I was told that it could be fixed by extracting the broken bolt. i went ahead with fixing it. Later I found out that the bolt could not be removed. what the mechanic there did was drill in another bolt right next to the broken one. he used this to seal the manifold. well now 1 1/2 months later, the manifold is leaking again. im guessing with that extra bolt my head is ruined. now i came across some edelbrock heads my question is that if i find the correct head can i bolt my stock manifolds to those aftermarket heads, and can i keep by stock cam also? sorry for the story but i felt the need to explain my situation.
Not worth throwing aftermarket heads with stock manifolds, stock cam, and leaving the heads untouched.. especially not those edelbrock heads.
From your description it sounds like your cheapest bet would be to throw on a set of used heads and call it a day. Cheap fix.

If the Edelbrock heads are the ones that are for the LT1s, then yes, your stock manifolds will bolt right up. I'm still in disbelief that your mechanic would drill a hole wherever he pleased in the cylinder head.
First if they could not extract the broken bolt then i would have took the car and left. Even if they could not extract it with a extractor they could have drilled it out and helicoiled it. That was the easy fix. what they did was just plain incompentcy. Never take your car there again.
That is the most ridiculous thing I've heard in a long time.
You could pull the head off and have someone fill the hole in with aluminum. Then, take the head and have it shaved until the manifold surface is true again. That might actually help with your manifold leak, also. I would agree, a used head would be easier and cheaper, but I figured I'd throw out another solution.
