What is the difference, if any, between a '96 LT1 and a '97 LT1?

I have an opportunity to buy a complete LT1 without wiring or computer for $300, with 170,000 miles on it. I have a '97 Camaro SS that still runs fine with 90,000 miles on it, but would like to start rebuilding a heavily modified motor to drop in within a year or so.

Is there any reason I can't rebuild this '96 and put it in place of my '97 motor with litttle or no changes to sensors and such?

It's virtually the same.

Looks just like any other LT1... the same. The LS1 is a totally different design.

Which would matter the most since he's thinking of making a heavily modified car.

The original poster was only talking about the engine.

The Wife had a Hissy-Fit and wouldn't let me buy it. A 1996 with 170,000 miles and it went for $450 on ebay, only 2 hours from where I live. I wish I still had *********.

Thanks for the info though, and for the short trip through the twilight zone there on the internals of the LT1/LS1 swap.
