Start with suspension, work your way to bolt-ons, then go into engine internals.

First get aftermarket lower control arms, panhard rod, and shock brackets. Then get a 12-bolt and aftermarket torque arm. Get some drag springs and shocks.

-switch to a stage 3 clutch
-go with a higher stall (around 3000) or get an manual tranny
-rebuild the auto tranny if you're going to stay auto
-full exhaust (longtube headers and dual exhaust)
-full intake (cold air intake or ram air intake)
-electric water pump
-underdrive pulley
-ignition box
-coil
-over the valve cover plug wires
-airfoil
-throttle body coolant bypass
-port and descreen maf
-port throttle body
-1.6 roller rockers
-big cam shaft
-hardened pushrods
-big lift springs
-rev kit
-better valves
-clean up heads
-get heads max ported
-custom grind cam
-get lt4 head gaskets (this will up your compression to 11.5
-stroke the bottom end
-get a tune by ion soltan

or....

get a turbo system!

Everything he said . The suspension in addition to some good tires is a great way to start.
