There is a wealth of information out there to point you in the right direction but we have no idea regarding your goals, budget, current mods, your personal mechanical ability and experience, heck even what vehicle you drive, transmission, etc. Fill in the missing information and we can give you a hand.

Welcome to the forum.

All I'm needed is information from other people with there setup, the cam they used and the numbers they gained.

Re: What cam to use

we can help you pick out a cam for your car if you tell us what you have already. What worked well for someone else may not work well for you.

If you are using a stroker kit, make sure its got a forged crankshaft. You dont want to get stuck with an aftermarket cast crank, there usually weaker then the stock crank. There failures are well documented on this and other sites

Re: What cam to use

But the cam is only one part of the equation. The specific heads are another part. Can't pick one without knowing the other. Can't estimate HP gains without all parts of the equation. You need better flowing heads to realize any gains out of a 383, and the matched head/cam selection can cause the results to vary by 60-80HP.

Take a look at examples of the cam and head offerings on the two sites linked below, for an idea of the typical cam grinds and head porting required. And don't forget required supporting modifications. These are for a 350/355ci setup, so you're going to need something more aggressive for a 383.

Re: What cam to use

And......pick your heads/cam last.

Why?

Because any engine technician that's worth a damn, will not (should not) spec you a cam until the engine specs are known.

Specifically, a decent tech will want to know the piston specs and the engine's deck height. Knowing this, the tech will be able to closely calculate the static compression ratio for the engine given the specs of the heads (specifically, the combustion chamber size). At this point.....the cam selection can be made.

As I see it right now, until and unless you do some basic engine research, you're destined for an under-performing stroker motor.

Sorry.....just calling it like I see it .
