Prevents valve float, keeps the lifters on the cam, I think it provides about 80lb extra open pressure which is awesome, also pushes on the lifter body so no extra load on the lifter plunger area.

If you have the right valvetrain parts, and arent revving your motor to the moon, you likely dont need this kit, unless you want one just to say you have one

I run a Hydra-rev kit on my engine. It isn't necessary with my current cam, but I originally ran a 235/242 .568/.592 114 cam and was seeing close to 7000 rpm on any WOT gear shift.

If you get a kit and install it with the heads still on the engine..... do yourself a favor and buy the specific AFR tool for compressing the springs.

When I changed cams we got the kit OUT ok, but getting all the springs back in was an event I would not wish to repeat. Most of them aren't too tough to do by hand if you're strong enough and have a flat bit of metal to use to pull up on and set the springs in place. But the front and rear spring on the driver's side were nearly impossible and each one took a lot of pain to get in there.

Buy the tool !

And I agree.... unless you are going to see extreme rpms or your valve springs are not strong enough..... you won't need the AFR hydra-rev kit for anything more than mental-health insurance and to say you've got it.

It'll free some horsepower at HIGH, HIGH revs...don't know about the 100 it claims...lol

I want a Hyrda-REV kit just so when the Ricers start talking about V-TEC I can sit back and talk about my "cool" Hydra-REV system....does it come with Decals?

Run the appropriate valvespring (there's MANY available that will handle what most "normal" people run like the XE's etc.), and save your $ on the revkit. It applies pressure to the lifter, not the valve. If you need another valvespring, this isn't the way to go to attempt to band-aid that .

IMHO the Rev kit is awesome, the whole point of the rev kit is it applies pressure on the lifter's body not the plunger; therefore, you have more spring pressure without sacrificing lifter life, hydraulic lifters don't like too much spring, so after a sertrain point around 400-440 open pressure, if you want more spring you need to use the hydra rev kit or else you are just killing the lifter, & although not collapsed may start collapsing at high RPM & when the car isn't running.

Also, in the event of a rocker/pushrod failure you won't cause any damage to the engine with the rev kit because the lifter still have spring pressure even though the rocker broke or a pushrod bent, without the hydra rev kit your lifter will not be following the cam, it will be smashed by the cam & probably tearing it apart, then you have a damaged cam/lifter in pieces in your oil pan/bearings, Also, when & if you ever OVER-REV your engine, you'll have some valve float at the valve, if you have the rev kit, it'll also keep the lifter on the cam & won't cause any damage to the valve train from over-reving.

You can also have a lifter fail one day, with the rev kit at least you have the lifter on the cam since its providing spring pressure on the lifter body so it doens't matter if the lifter fails.

Awesome investment & piece of mind IMO.

Next time you're in the garage with the car apart... pull off a rocker, and pull out the pushrod.

Tell me when the lifter comes out with it .

It's a safety device & not much more. IMO the reason some guys cant get certain cam profiles to run when others do without issue is simply due to inexperience & improper component selection.

The revkit is a good idea if you think you're going to overrev the car however, b/c as mentioned, when you break stuff it'll at least keep the lifter in it's bore so you don't have it floating around & lose oil pressure . In my experience, 99% of the time, for street guys with HR cams etc., it isnt much more than something to add to their signatures . Regardless, it isnt horribly expensive or anything & if it makes ppl feel better... go for it .
