What are the advantages of stepped headers?

Just curious what the advantages are of stepped headers over standard headers?

Re: What are the advantages of stepped headers?

They help keep exhaust gas velocity up.

Re: What are the advantages of stepped headers?

I believe there theory behind it is that it is supposed to increase your torque range through changing the flow characteristic of exhaust gases. It is done though stepping the pipes to a smaller diameter thus increasing the velocity sort of like the venturi effect.

I don't know what gains there one would see though and not sure if spending additinal money would be worth it... choose a long tube header with high flow characteristics..most will have similar gains.

Re: What are the advantages of stepped headers?

I thought the headers were stepped up after coming off of the head?

Are stepped headers always better than standard diameter as far as going with true duals or regular cat-back?
