Wet Distributor

I washed my engine (94 Z28) and now it won't start, the distributor is wet. Is it a bear to dry out?
Thanks, Ralph

Re: Wet Distributor

its probably just your plug wires.... try taking them off at the coil pack...(behind harmonic balancer) and spray WD40 in them... thats what that stuff was originally made for....displacing water in airplane carbs.

Re: Wet Distributor

I'm afraid it's not the plug wires. I fans on it all night and it still does the same thing. The question remains...What do I have to do to get at it???
Thanks!

Re: Wet Distributor

The first rule of owning an LT1 is DO NOT GET THE OPTISPARK WET! A big puddle, a high pressure car wash, coolant drips from the water pump weep holes, slopping coolant when changing a hose, etc are all potentially fatal actions as far as the Opti is concerned. The 95 and later "vented" models are a little more forgiving, because of the air flow through the unit.

Pouring water on the engine is never a good idea, and when you've got a 10-year old, computer controlled EFI/ignition setup, with aged connectors and dried out water seals its a really bad idea.

Re: Wet Distributor

i think you have to pull the harmonic balancer... in any case you can't dry it out without taking it off... you may be able to spray wd40 on it. that stuff was made to displace water, in other words it will move the water out of it. if you want to wash your engine, only do it while it's running.... i used to detail cars and you can wash most any motor as long as it's running..

Re: Wet Distributor

I just changed my opti and wasnt that bad it takes about 4hrs, you have to pull the water pump and coolant lines then the Crank pully and pass side colling fan, and the rev to put it back together, its not hard just alittle long and you might get wet with coolant.
