Question Weird Heat problem - please advise

car - 94Z28 (less then 60K. New clutch - McLeod about 10K still chattering like crazy, tranny fluid changed 5K ago)
After considarable city drive (trafic, stop & go. E.T.S) I have some very notisible heat comming out from the shifter (Hurst) area which I can fill with my hand on the shifter. Also the metal stick from the shifter is geting rally hot to touch. Also some serious heat comming out from under the car on the passanger side. Oil and water temp is showing OK. Also I noticed that it only happenning when I have 1/4 of the fuel in the tank or less (highly unlikely has anything to do with it - but still nefer happens with more then a 1/2 tank full)
Beside the tranny fluid - will recheck again, what can be wrong?? Can it be a cat by any chance??

I'd say that's normal; your cat is located close to this area.
