Big cam, single plane, lots of compression, and everything else working right.

Yes this is a daily driver. I have driven it every day since I have gotten it back.

Whats an EWP?

Those are some high expectations... damn. That would be sweet to see 450rwhp!! Car pulls like a raped ape... it's crazy. I can leave a car like it's standing still in 3rd.

I beat a Spec V in 5th at 2500rpms. haha I went 1/2 - 2/3 throttle.

More importantly, what will it trap and run?

I predict 11.8 @ 118 or 119

hmm...383? no.

LT4s, I thought he had trickflows for some reason, still not an LT1 casting.

Sar2k comes to mine in this application, 445RWHP with a stock LT1 shortblock, 248/254 HR cam right at .600 lift, ported LT1 heads and intake, by himself that peaked at 250CFM . Theres something going on there besides head flow you think, lol. made max power at 6600 RPM
Again, not a 383.

B/c there are some pretty strong Lt1 383's out there.
In order to get the min csa up to par for a 383 peaking above 6100rpm, you will need to weld the pushrod pinch, run offset lifters (solid), and offset rockers. Don't take it as I think the combo is crap, I just think there are alot better heads out there for a 383 trying to make a big number.

To be completely honest, the combo is setup alot better than mine, but also you just don't see magical LT1's defeating mother nature.

will you be dyno tuning it as well? I think youll make useable power all the way to 7000 rpm with that cam. I think you'll hit the 450mark, or be close

Unless you tune the **** out of it. I'm saying 420rwhp, period. Don't get all hyped up just to be let down, because you expect way too much.

FWIW 500rwhp Hyd Roller NA LT1's that are driveable will cost $15K more TB to Pan.

BTW you need valve curtain area as well as not having the pushrod pinch to get a 383 to peak high enough to make stupid power.

Bret, does that mean mine is putting down pretty good power?

Considering the lack of compression, hell yeah. You have the physical parts there the only power to be found is thru lots of tweaking and testing little things..... Denny McClain is a good example of that. He started off with stock castings below 400rwhp and ended up around 450rwhp, and the same thing with his 480rwhp setup now.

Re: VRE 383 with LE3 Package Finally being Dynoed!!

I would say 435 RWHP and 420 RWTQ with great tuning, proper rocker adjustment, good opti, etc, etc.

The car probably "feels" like it has more power since the TQ curve is so fat. It is just hard to do any better with LT1 castings on a 383 since we are gonna make peak HP so early (about 6000-6100 RPM). It should keep you pinned back in the seat until 6600 RPM (or until you let off actually) and probbaly run its best ET shifting at 6400-6500 RPM but the dyno will show the HP #'s peaking at 6000-6100 RPM and this will probably limit the overall #'s from ever reaching 450 RWHP but ya never know. Enough pulls and tweaks on the dyno might do it. On a side not, the car should be at 400 RWHP right around 5000 RPM and this is another thing making the car "feel like" it has more HP than it might actually show on a dyno.

As far as track times, if it is a 6 speed car and weighs 3700 lbs with driver and can only get a 1.90 60 ft, 11.80's at 117 MPH is probably about right. Not bad if that is the way he wants his car set up and likes the 6 speed with that .5 6th gear.

You can obviously run faster at the track by removing 500 lbs (1/2 asecond right there) and running an A4 trans (or A3 if you are not worried about the O/D and gas mileage) with a 3600-4000 stall for a 1.50 60 ft and run some 11.10-10.80's at 120-123 MPH are more than doable.

Depends on what he is willing to do as far as weight removal and how important the 1/4 ET is. Somepeople like the OD trans, A/C and a very "tourquey" streetable set that you do not have to beat on to feel fast.

then again, if you are building a race car and focusing on 1/4 times with NO A/C or Overdrive trans, you will be better off with a 66 Chevy II, 280 Z, etc, and build a chassis for it.

I'll agree fully with that Lloyd. I built my to be just like you stated. My dad calls it a slow race car...lol, but then again he never broke into the 11s with his Sprint Falcon back in the 60s...lol.

If the car only makes 399 RWHP but still puts a big grin on your face ... who cares.
