Place i went to is Exotic performance (or something like that) In Ft Wayne Indiana. Ok here is my problem. I have a 97z a4 and was wanting to get a slp loudmouth exhaust cat back, but when the guy looked it up all he could find were 98 on up ls1 cat backs for it. He said there was a 97 install kit, but no actual 97 cat back system for loudmouth. Is that kit suppose to make the Ls1 kit fit on a Lt1? Also he said install would be $60/hr and take approx 4 hours.....does that sound fair? The place has like 3 ferraris on display too........and they are sweet!

I installed the loudmouth myself - by myself no other tools except a saws-all to get all the old exhaust piping off the z, then a wrench to tighten down the bands. I have a single cat 94 z28 so I had to order the installation adapter. Since you're 97 you're dual cat and have the same exhaust as someone 98-02 (just different manifolds) You can find all the information at SLPOnline.com

I vote for installing it yourself. Save the money because 4hrs seems really too long.

Thats a lot of money for installation.Do it yourself and save.Call SLP they will help you.

I just did a Cat-Back this weekend... Edelbrock. But, I can't imagine the SLP being that much more difficult to install. I did it in the driveway and it will take a few hours.

You'll need a sawsall with a metal blade. Make a cut right at the pipe where it bends over the axle. Then just unbolt the pipe from the cat and the two hangers over the axle. Drops down easy.

Then just bolt your SLP up... again, I did it in the driveway with two safety jack stands, a hydraulic for back-up, and a block of firewood to chalk under the front tire.

Save yourself the cash and buy a CAI.

It is fairly simple.

The Edelbrock was a bit long on the over-axle pipe so I had to use the sawsall again to cut off about 2".

This weekend, I'm going to the hardware store and I'll get some 600* Thermo Wrap just for the top sides of the muffler, over-axle pipe, and the pipe through the driveshaft loop. Just in case it wants to rattle... nothing yet. But the car is loud and I don't want any rattle registering as false knock.

A REAL performance shop wouldn't take 4 hrs. to install a catback. You can do it by your self in 1-2 with jackstand in the driveway. They are not that difficult. You use all of the stock mounting brackets and it just bolts right up to the catalytic converter. That guy is trying to mug you. Really........that'd be robbery!

I think i've been to that shop before. Yeah they have really nice cars in on display.. but how do you think they got them.. rippen people off by saying a two hour job will take 4!! haha i say do it yourself, i did mine when i was 16... i mean come-on it took me 2 hours, and it's gonna take a pro 4 hours? haven't had any problems with 2 years of driving it so i would guess i did a good job. just my 2cents

If you end up not wanting to do it yourself at least go to a Meineke, Midas, or local muffler shop for the install. There's nothing complicated about a cat back, Meineke charged me $100 for my Borla install.

So where is the best place to buy the SLP Loudmouth??? There is a 40 dollar shipping charge at slponline and was wondering if there is anywhere else i could get it........Would an auto zone or advanced auto parts be able to get one in?

4 hours for a catback install?? You could do it in your driveway in 2 hours. A speed shop with a lift should have it on in under an hour no problem. Like said above, these guys sound like they make their money ripping off people who don't know better. Find somewhere else to do it or tell them it won't take that long. Or find a couple jackstands and learn a little about your car.
