Valve spring shims

Valve spring shims

Hi do i need to order from summit or will any shim do?

depends how much you need to shim

must be slightly larger than the interior and exterior diameter of the spring

They should be placed under the spring locater (cup). If you use them directly under the spring, they need to be hardened shims. Under the cup, they needn't be hard, I suppose. But shims sold as spring shims are typically hardened anyway.

You'll pay twice as much and most likely get the wrong thing if you order from summit - get them from a machine shop. --> .562 ID x ~1.260" OD - I don't remember the part number for that size off the top of my head.

The copper colored .060" shims are not hardened, the blue/silver .060" & .030" shims are hard as are the black .015" shims.
