Valve seals - brass, teflon...???

Okay folks, ditching the Hotcam for a GM847 with CMS-612 springs and figured new vlave seals would be good while I'm in there. I've seen others talk about a few different options on the material. I seem to remember brass being the reccommended ones but want to be sure that there's not something better out there now. What do you reccommend?

Please include part #s if you have em.

Thanks

I thought GM sold the brass ones as well. Just wondering if they'll hold up longer than the stockers or if another material such as teflon would be better?

Isn't teflon just a coating that is bonded to the surface of other materials? I don't think you can make parts out of it.

I would just use the GM ones if I were you. Actually, I did use the GM ones just a few weeks ago with my cam install.

Also, those 612 springs are rated to .600 lift. If you plan to run 1.6 rockers, I'd get some better springs.

BTW,
here are the GM part numbers for the seals:

Intake: 10212810
Exhaust: 12564852

Before you order them, ask how many come in a package. My parts manual showed 4 per package, but one of those had 8 in a package.

PS. Looks like the 93 has different seals.... part number 10128383. Same PN for intake and exhaust...

I was told that the 847 max lift is .595 and the springs are good to .600 at minumum. I actually called CMS today to find out if I could use the HotCam kit spring seats with the 612s and ended up going over my combo with the guy and all was approved.

The hotcam runs about just as close from what I'm told. I primarily chose the cms-612s from reading about it here and with the fact you don't need to machine the heads to make em fit it sounds like the way to go.

Before I bought my 233/239, I had an 847 and those 612 springs. I called Combination and they seemed kind of hesitant about it, so I sold the 847 and bought the 233/239.
Either way, let us know how it goes. I'm curious to know how they'll work with the 847....

I talked to CMS couple day ago about the same setup (GM847 with 6122) and they told me it was no good for that cam and to go with dual springs.

Yep, that's exactly why I sold my 847. When I was inquiring on the board if these two will work together, someone said they told him it would work, someone said they told him it wouldn't and so I decided to go with a different cam. I didn't need that much lift anyway.....

alright then...I'm calling back tomorrow.

I've got the opportunity to pick up a set of comp986 springs for a good deal as well. Anyone know what max lift they can take?

Comps catalogue says .500 max lift on the 986's WTF

I know many who run more lift than that on them. I guess what it comes down to is...What springs are proven to work with the 847?

I would think the 986s would be good for more lift than .500. Call Comp tomorrow and ask them directly.

Here's some springs that will work:

Crane 99893 dual springs don't require machining

springs are good for almost .700" lift...

Or you could check out atljar's setup:

No machining required for those Cranes? The OD is more on them than on the 986s which usually require machining.

The K-Motions seem like a good choice as well.
