Stainless Works Y-Pipes

Saw the Alum. Stainless Works y-pipes for lt1's in the new summit i was wondering what you guys though about them? $200 seems like a pretty good deal to eliminate the cat's, what do you guys think i could possibly gain? And does anyone with a dual cat car, have no cat's and stock cat back? wondering what it would sound like ?
thanks guys

I don't understand everyones obsession over aftermarket y-pipes...why not just have one fabricated at your muffler shop for half the price and you know it'll fit...?

Didn't mean to flame, but I was just curious...

Becuase I simply just dont want to deal with that hassle, these should fit in theory and they don't seem toooo out-rageous on the price, since I could always sell it to someone else and get nearly 100% money back if i were to get headers or something later, which i prob could'nt do w/ a custom one.....

HASSLE??? There is more hassle wondering if they will fit, ordering them, then taking them to a shop if they don't. Just go to a local shop and have it done. I had mine done for a 100 bucks and its perfect. Drove in and drove out in 45 minutes. BAM

Are the pipes mandrel bent and tig welded though? If im not mistaken thats where they gain over stock, w/smooth curves of the piping? Besides the fact that the cat's will be gone as well.....

what does tig welded matter? not like its structural, way cheaper just to spray it with a mig welder. are the aftermarket y pipes tig? i know the custom ones in the shops arent, they just hold the tubes in place and blast em.

I could see wanting a custom Y made for longtubes or the like but for stock manifolds? My random technology Y pipe fit right up just fine.

I didnt have the stock replacement but I have the Y for hooker (alum) from them and its fitiment was poor, I actually had to cut off the flanges , rotate them and weld tem back into place. I swore never to buy from them again.

There is no reason for buying a y pipe for stock manifolds. Sure you will get a little more performance but not much. I would wait and just save up for a set of jet hots and get cut outs if you wanna keep a stealth looking exhaust that will still sound damn good. But as for price thats pretty good from summit!

Good Luck man,

Yeah, guys. I just installed the aluminized stainlessworks Y-pipe from summit on my 97 dual cat car with BBK shorties. Fit great. i did have to cut the pass. side flange and weld a BBK one on, primarily due to running the BBK's they have a different angle. But never a challenge for a welder. On a stock manifold they would have fit like a champ. Not bad for 199. And with only 7 bolts or so, I can switch back to cats if need be-see shorties are good for something. lol.

Question unsure

I hav a 97 t/a with dual cats, I'm assumming that all the "Y" pipes out there don't use the dual cats. I come from a state that has very high emmision testing, do the they make "Y" pipes with dual cats in them or is this defeating the purpose of the "Y" pipe.
thanks
zoso
