Turn key, nothing happens

Hey guys, I just reinstalled my motor in my car and I cant get the starter to hit.

When I put the key in the ign, and turn to the run position, all lights come to life, I can hear the fuel pump priming, and everything seems normal. When I try to start the car, the gauges do like they always have, drop as if there is a huge electrical drain on the system, but nothing happens. This is the third starter that I have had in the car since my motor rebuild. The first was the original stocker, and it turned the motor very slowly, so I bought a new stocker, same issue. With each starter, the car wouldnt do anything after I tried to start it. i.e it would do what it does now...nothing. This starter is a brand new CVR Protorque, and it has never turn over.

Now, the system is very simple, one large positive cable from the battery, ground is self contained, and two small ign wires.

In this case, what would you guys check? Im about to go outside and put it up on jackstands so that I can reach the starter again, as well as try to put 12v to the solenoid to make sure that it works fine, which I suspect it will, being brand new.

Assuming all checks out, what on earth could be happening here?

Regardless of whether you believe your battery is good, it may not be good enough.

So the first thing I'd check is the battery, along with the connections, making sure that the + and - are correct and the ground is solid. Sounds silly, but just do it.

Make sure the wires to the starter are on correct.

If you believe it is the ignition, jump the wires to see if the starter at least turns over. (disconnect your coil wire and make sure it is in neutral and wheels blocked so you don't run over your butt.)

With an M-6 it should be easy to push start if its the battery.

That's all I can think of for the moment, but as said, it's usually the battery or connections. JMHO

Thanks for the reply.

Just came in from checking it out. Battery is new also, forgot to mention that.

I have it narrowed down to the ign wires on the starter not recieving any signal. I suspected the VATS, cleaned my key and it didnt help. WIll the car light up, radio come on, ect, if the VATS resister isnt making a good connection? IOW, does the VATS system only prevent the car from starting?

The key is old, so I may have to go get another made if that is the case.

BTW, It does run like a champ, I push started it a few days ago when the first starter crapped out. Also, the motor has significantly higher C/R, so thats the reason for the Protorque.

Im going to see if a new key makes any difference.

Brand new key cut from VIN number specs.

What else would keep the solenoid from getting any signal from the ign?

This is rediculous.

If I dont find the problem by the weekend, Im going to bypass the whole damn thing and install a push-button starter.

There are only 2 wires that go to the starter. The large positive cable and the small purple wire (if you have a terminal marked "S", that's where it goes). There is another ground wire that is in that harness, but it goes to a small stud on the block, below the #6 plug.
