tuning question?

i saw on speed channel that they used a hypertech computer tuner that increased the hp about 90 and torque over 100ft-lbs.
yes they dynoed it, so it's accurate. this was on a truck but can be used on our cars as well, i believe.

would this be a good thing to try on my car? have any of u guys done this and whats the down sides of using this ex: bad gas mileage?

What you saw sounds like a diesel application.... they have tons of HP available, and the "programmers" can work wonders. The Hypertech Programmer (HPP3) for the LT1's is relatively useless for any type of power gains.

Not that it needs to be done, but I'll second Injuneer's comment. They fiddle so much with the boost setting on Diesel applications that there's gobs of power to be found sitting in those motors. But on our cars, alot of people actually hit a loss with those things.

first off, i don't know much about diesiel engines. i've heard alot on how chips and so on don't help our cars. when i saw those #'s, i thought that those sayings may have been wrong.

with my inexperience of knowing diesiel engines thought it would be realitively the same on a gas engine. i guess i was wrong, sorry. now i know the truth.

well i will have to disagree.

I used a hypertech reprogrammer on my car and it feels and IS ALOT faster. It Shifts ALOT harder and i can tell that it accelerates faster and about at half throttle the car will just take off. I also gained about 1 1/2 car on a mustang that i raced before and we were dead even and hes done nothing to the car sence.

Post your dyno numbers or track times to back it up. There are far too many people who have dyno'd the HPP, and done back to back comparisons at the track, and found no gain, or even a loss. I tested mine using a Vericom performance computer, and found no gain. Handy for gear changes and shift points, but definitely not a significant "power adder".

As a PCM tuner, I can tell you from experience that Injuneer is correct and the Hypertech is useless. About all the HPP does is change shift points, firm up shifts (something you really don't want to use the PCM to do, the trans will wear out quicker due to the pressure increase the PCM applies), change the temp at which the fans come on. It really doesn't do anything else. They claim to change timing, but every file I've taken a look at that has used the HPP power tuning, the stock timing tables are the same. Instead of wasting money on the HPP (about $300-$350), why not get mail order tuning and get a lot more done? Madwolf will tune your car with everything the HPP does for like $50-$100.

Please don't bad mouth the HPP too much. It makes it much harder to unload those suckers on E-Bay.
