Trouble with AFR heads/valve cover sealing

Got the motor running and seem to have what we suspect is oil up near the top of the motor towards the rear outside of the passenger side head. I don't believe it's an intake leak, but will confirm.

One thing to note is that the heads are AFR's and when we installed the valve covers, the corners interfered. The rim that the gasket sits on is wider in some areas than the rest, so we ended up bending the edges out slightly. I suspect this is the problem, and if so, what can we do? Probably should of had the extra material removed from the heads, too late to do easily now...

AFR's need shorter bolts for center bolt valve covers. If you use regular length bolts they will bottom out and the valve cover will not seal properly. I just tooke the cutoff wheel to mine and trimmed them a little.

Exactly, I used the stock covers for a while with about a 1/4 inch shorter bolts and they sealed fine, I'm now using the Moroso centerbolt covers and the bolts they sent with them were too long as well. They will bottom out and not tighten the covers down completly.

Hmmm...that's VERY interesting! I'll take a look at that, thanks guys! Gotta love these "bolt-on" heads. After I bolted them on, I simply had to cut, grind, bend, and tweak everything else! LOL!

It's all part of the fun.
