I was a little alarmed that you posted this, because I just ordered some NGK iridiums. So I called them up, and they explained to me that the deal is the iridium electrode is a lot more fragile than other electrodes, and they had a tendency to break when improperly gapped by customers. But he assured me that as long as I gapped them properly and put no strain at all on the center electrode and only moved the ground electrode up and down (no side movement), gapping is fine with them.

How do you gap a plug without putting stress on the center electrode?

Thomas.

You apply bending pressure only to the ground strap, making sure the tool does not rest against the center electrode
