toqueing header bolts
toqueing header bolts
how do you guys actually torque your headers? i can't for the life of me fit a socket over the head to torque the pacesetters in. i tightened them w/ a wrench when i first put them on. i'm worried that if thier torqued differently, they'll warp. any suggestions?
Re: toqueing header bolts
Just get them all as tight as you can. When they leak, do it agian. I had to retighten mine a few times before they setteled in. Haven't messed with them for a year or so now.
Re: toqueing header bolts
Same here - just used a little (3/8 i believe) wrench to tighten them as much as I could. Make sure to check them FREQUENTLY during the first few weeks for retightening, then they should be fine.
Re: toqueing header bolts
Theres no real way to fit a bulky torque wrench in there. I just tightened them real good with an open end wrench. I check them periodically and they haven't backed out since the day I installed them.
Re: toqueing header bolts
I used a small socket for some of them and an open end wrench for others. You want to run the engine for 15-30 minutes to let the headers and gaskets go through a heat cycle and then come back later on and retighten. Take a short drive and then retighten after it cools. I put the Stage8 locking bolts on and I waited for about 5 heating cycles before putting the locks and clips on. No problems so far.

Ditto. Use a wrench and get them about as tight as you can. Tighten them again a few times over the next few days/weeks, and then check them every three months or so. I always find one or two that are backing out every time I check mine.
