no start after new opti

well i installed a new GM opti, icm, coil today and got it all back together and no start, detaniting, poping out exhaust, intake sounds like its burping air back out, sound badly out of time, what the hell did i do. fired for like 10 secs but had 2 floor it to get it 2 fire and keep giving it gas to idle, and sounded and ran like total crap. I am highly confused now.
Any one have any ideas of waht i might of bumped or not done rite. i did manualy turn motor a lil 2 get dowl pin strait up and down. but other then that just the stander issue opti swap.

Re: no start after new opti

It is possible to assemble the Opti with the dowel pin in the wrong hole. Sounds like you many have done that.

Re: no start after new opti

It is supposed to be possible, BUT if misaligned they say the pressure from the cam on the opti will destroy the opti! I would STOP and take it back apart, start by checking that all plugs are on the correct cylinder, and all wires are correctly attached etc.

Unless the plug wires are wrong or a ground to ignition module is loose, I would NOT restart the engine. IF the dowel is in the wrong location the next crank MIGHT destroy the opti.

Sorry to hear of the trouble. When the opti was installed did it have no clearance between timing chain cover and opti? The opti should 'seat' with slight pressure, and not require bolts to bottom it.

Good luck

Re: no start after new opti

i triple checked the plug wires ,and the opti set perfect against the timing cover no gap then just snugged up the bolts.

Re: no start after new opti

well as luck would have it, new opti goes in , and no start. Still the exact symptoms burping out intake, blows out smoke sometimes. And the the occacional back fire. the only code it throws is p0100(not sure what that code means ) im gunna keep searching to see if can find anything more, I am gunna double check spark and try to get some electric readings. But other than that im with out a car, so if any one has any ways to point me, or any ideas that might give me direction . Please let me know , thanks alot guys i dunno what i would do with out the internet.

Re: no start after new opti

First google hit on p0100 says MAF.

Sounds like you need a shop manual.

Re: no start after new opti

my maf is bad, just ordered a new one, if you unplug the maf, it should be able to run, everytime i started my car up with the maf unplugged it started up, it took a few times to start the first time but started up, when i plugged the maf in when it was running, it shut the car off right away. I would say, unplug the mass air flow sensor (maf) and try to fire it up a few times, it might not start the first time, but i bet you it will start up after a few times. I bet your MAF is bad.

Re: no start after new opti

Sounds like it was misaligned...exactly what a car would do if the distributor was 180* out of time..
