Tips On A Tune Up

Hey everyone,

Just finished replacing my 3rd and yes I do mean 3rd optispark on my car. Fixed my non starting problem, car runs but not as good as the day I bought it. Ihave AC Delco Wires and AC Delco Platinum plugs but I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions on Gap Size for plugs, any certain ways to run the new 7mm wires, and any tips whatsoever on how to do the swap cause I know changing the opti was bad, I can't even see most of the wires to do the tune up. Anyone know any certain angles or tricks that I could used that have been helpful to any would be appreciated. I want all 5.7 liters to work, I honestly haven't felt the pull that it's had in over 2 years and I need to do something bout it.

Thanks again guys,

gap them all at .050 which is the stock thing. The best thing i find for spark plugs is crawl up into your engine bay and lay down on your engine knees on the radiator shroud throw a blanket over your bumper so you dont mess it up. You can adjust your height by pivoting at the waist and you should be able to do all of them from the top. All the plugs can be removed and replaced with a ratchet wrench with 1in extension, a ujoint, and the plug holder. Youy can use different combinations of those things. on plug 8, shove your arm in past the oil dipstick, it will hurt but your hand will be right next to the plug.

Do a couple every day to save on frustration and be done in a few days.

Thumbs up Re: Tips On A Tune Up

Thanks man,

I know I have heard from other people to lay across the engine before too, so it sounds like my best shot. question is can the new ones be routed like the old ones and are the wire looms reusable or are the new ones basically gonna hang? And when you say ratchet wrench you mean a socket wrench with a u-join and 1" extension right. Just want to clarify. thanks again for the suggestion. Anyone else have any tips let me know, every little bit helps.

Shoould be able to route them pretty close. Most of the looms will be reusable, you may break one so you have to be creative. Make sure none of the plugs or their boots can touch the headers in their range of wiggling so they dont get burnt.

Yes i mean a socket wrench.
pm me if you need help along the way. I wish i could give you help on the wires but i dont have much tips because i have trouble with them myself.

Re: Tips On A Tune Up

If this is your 3rd opti you might want to look into the delteq or LTCC systems. It might save you some headache in the future. After I went through 2 opti's in 2 months I decided to go this route.
