timing set crank gear?

Is there a trick to get the timing gear back on the crank? I have the LT4 extreme duty timing set and I have the notch and the key lined up properly. Any help would be awesome.

thanks

Joe

Line it up and tap it back on until it is flush.

my personal trick is heat it up on a hot plate and it will usually slide right on. I hate to beat on gears. Oh just so you wont end up in the emergency room and your lawyer calls me.... Be sure to wear protective hand garments when handling the hot gear. Those of you under 18 should not try this at home nor try it with laces in your shoes.

A large socket or piece of pipe has always worked for me

I tried the large socket and it seems to get hung up maybe a half an inch from flush and dosen't go further. I am whacking it pretty good, but I am afraid to hit it too hard and mess something up.

Will heating it up damage it in any way, such as weaken the teeth or anything?

Thanks

Joe

No heating the gear will just expand it a little. Actually, if allowed to cool slowly, it may even strengthen the metal.
