oil pan gasket replacement

I've heard that you can replace your oil pan gasket with just removing the bolts. How exactly do you do this? I am going to be doing a header install in a bit and I was thinking of doing this at the same time, but I didn't know how hard it would be.

I just did a search on this and found out that the oil pan can be removed with the engine in the car if you have an automatic transmission. The thread said that with a M6, you wouldn't be so lucky.

I couldn't remove mine (M6 car). I had to lift the engine up slightly and slip the gasket around the pan. Works great, just clean the pan before you try it.

I have an M6 all i did to replace my gasket was take the y pipe out and starter, removed the oil cooler, and unbolted the pan. The pan then drops down enough for you to take the old gasket out. Then make sure you clean all around the area. Next just slip the new gasket in. I didnt have to lift my engine or anything. Now if you wanna take the pan out you either have to pull the tranny or lift the engine. Its not really hard at all. Good Luck
