Timing gears?
Timing gears?
I got a question and I'm hoping someone out there knows the answer...
I'm no gear head, not by a long shot, but at 50,000 miles, which is waaay too soon, my '97 Z-28 snorted the timing chain out ot's guts. Luckily, It was sitting at idle in the driveaway and all the car did was die.
I did some reading, got a new chain, but I've seen that the really high end cars that don't *want* this problem ever, like Top Fuelers and such, use helical timing gears that are a lot more bullet proof. However, I can't find a timing gear set to replace the chain setup on an LT1 to save my life.
So. Does anyone out there know if one exists? Where I could find one?
Thanks y'all.

Your main choices other than the stock LT1 set that will retain the stock waterpump drive are the LT4 or the LT4 Extreme Duty timing set which is the strongest. You can find them both here
If you order from one of the GM discount parts suppliers like Jason Cromer
you can get the LT4 ED for $199.00 plus shipping last time I checked.

u can get a cloyes double roller for 90 bucks. But, u need to delete the CPS and convert to electric w/p. Its worth the trouble, more power with the electric w/p. Plus I like the cloyes, proven quality. Brian at pcmforless can delete the CPS and a bunch of other cool stuff
for 175 bucks, and 50 bucks for updates after that, alot cheaper than the PP3
