Re: timing dot question

Cam 6, crank 12 at #1/6 TDC. I think the dowel is at 3 or so. Shoebox has a picture on his tech page.

Re: timing dot question

12 & 6 or 12 & 12 both are correct. One is firing on #6 one is firing on#1.

Exactly.

12 & 6 = #6 TDC

12 & 12 = #1 TDC

Re: timing dot question

Probably easier to eyeball 12/6 correctly though

Re: timing dot question

if you did it 12 and 6 do you have to change anything? what is the difference between 12 and 12/ 12 to 6?

The reason you can have it be at 12/6 or 12/12 is because the cam spins at half the speed of the crank. There is no difference its just a different cylinder is at top dead center.

Not sure what you are getting at. Both are in the normal sequence of the cam/crank timing, so there is nothing to have to change.

actually, both are TDC, one is on the compression stroke, one is on exhast

Most people relate TDC to the compression stroke. Technically, TDC is TDC whether on the compression or exhaust stroke. The piston is still at the same place. It's the cam that is in a different position.
