Time for a cutout?

Im thinking of putting a cutout on my Z, my exhaust note is quiet for me, and believe one would help me out with a full bolt on car.. Im thinking 3" by the rear wheels... what does everyone think? I get no vibrations from my catback right now, but how bad would the noise in the cabin be??

Re: Time for a cutout?

I just installed dual 3" electric cutouts on my '97 Z28. It is already decently loud without the cutout, but with the cutouts open it is very loud and sounds great. Plus, you can just flip a switch and in about 4 seconds it goes back to nice and quiet. If you are running true duals like I am, just come straight off the header on each side into a dump with a QTP electric dump on each side. You'll love using it!

Re: Time for a cutout?

I hear of guys running an LS1 driveshaft on here. I guess it's made of aluminum instead of steel like ours on the LT1 are constructed.

An LS1 aluminum driveshaft is a nice upgrade indeed. You can get them for around $ 90 off ebay or in the parts for sale section of the forum.

What's wrong with your current DS?

Many people that have a problem with DS vibration after going to higher numerical rear axle ratio (3.73/4:10) will swap in the 1LE or the LS1 aluminum DS to eliminate the vibration. Works fine, until you get up to 500HP or so, and then you are at risk with the stock aluminum units.

Re: Time for a cutout?

It's all personal preference. If you like loud, you'll like the cutout. You can't really go wrong with one honestly. If you don't like the cabin noise during normal driving, just keep it closed till you're at the track or wanting it open.

Just before the rear tire is fine.
