I currently have a bad exaust leak aswell and its driving me nuts to. Go and get some new exaust gaskets. If you have headers get some exaust gaskets for headers for an LT1. MR gasket makes a copper set that im going to get that will gurintee you no leaks (suposodly) but i dont have part numbers, youl have to call autozone or summit.

If it hasn't already been mentioned a loose spark plug can also make a very distinct ticking noise.

The best guide is trial and error i think. But yeah i still have this noise and it's driving me nuts. I took a spethoscope to the engine and found it's coming somewhere from the engine mount, but it isn't that, it's practically brand new and screwed down tight at ever. hmmmmm

Ok, I tried the screwdriver method and found out a ticking sound comes from here:
162kb Image
all eight of them, somehow I dont think its the same ticking... I will try and get a video of it, btw, it only sounds when the engine is warm.

You do know the injectors are suppose to tick right? If they don't that's bad. Mine make a loud ticking noise and so does my neighbors truck. It's because they're opening and closing. That's a good thing if you hear ticking from them. What i'm talking about it a LOUD ticking coming from the passenger side somewhere, sounds like a metal to metal hit.

yeah, what I was saying is that that's the only ticking I heard when I used the screwdriver. But the other ticking is still heard and it's from the passenger's side. and its LOUD. I'll try and get an audio clip.

Try the screwdriver/stethoscope on the manifold bolts of the intake. Thats where i heard mine the loudest. Already smoked 2 sets of lifters, sounds like your problem to me. Revin' to 6500+ while bouncing off the rev limiter on a delayed WOT shift turns out to not be the best of things for the lifters (ie. floating valves).

Nope, it doesnt sound like that, I'll try and post a clip tomorrow, it sounds more like a grinding sound.

That definitely is going to be bad. Mine also has that sound. EEP! Looks like that wanted rebuild is coming sooner than I thought.
