Hmm sounds like I might be taking mine off also, I don't take corners very fast since I have a vert, but did you guys feel like you had to slow down more than you had to before around corners.

Also what about the rear swaybar, I imagine that would help traction, I had to take mine off, but never put it back on since the endlink bolts were so rusted they snapped off, should I just leave it off or put it back on. As mentioned before I don't care about turning only straight line acceleration.

By the way, I posted this same question in the drag racing forum if any of you are interested in seeing that post.

The rear swaybar helps the car hook...don't remove it. I have removed the front swaybar and love it! It's just like the others said....only noticable at higher speeds...it's kinda darty too...but we have wide tires anyway.

Well I took my swaybar off last night and broke the damn endlink bolts in the process... oh well. I didn't get a chance to drive it much, because my friend called and I had to help him fix his truck. But my first impression was that my car handled like a boat. Its not that bad, though. Hopefully I'll make a run pretty soon and see if it helped traction much.

As everyone else has said, you get used to it. Mine has been off for about 6 months on my daily driver. I also lost about .2 in the 1/4. The big thing that I noticed with mine off is the tracking. When I go through a rutt in the road the car will follow it more than with the bar in.

Good luck.

Mine has been off for about 6 weeks now. All this happened in the same day on the same trip AFTER mine was taken off.
First, while taking a buddy home, I hit 140 mph. Fastest I have had my car upto yet. The only thing bad I noticed was the windows started sucking out away from the car. There was a slight left turn also, the car took it like a champ.
Second, in the back roads of S AL., had to swerve VERY hard to miss a dead opossum(SP?) in the road. The cruise was set at 110 mph. We were in the opposite lane and back within 2-3 seconds. My buddys first words was "Dont yank it!" By then I was already in the right lane going back straight. The car never missed a beat.
This was on stock suspension, the only thing different was the front sway bar missing.
I say everyone, except hard-core road racers should yank them. The car has no name- stock size tires on the front with some worn out stock size Nitto's DR's out back. On salad shooters, of course.

Maybe this is a stupid question. But how does removing the front sway bar help that much? I mean besides weight reduction(it only weighs about 15 pounds right?). I dont see how it could cut your 60's by .2.

I think the bar plus the brackets would weigh in at 30ish pounds.

I weighed everything I took off, including the bar, the endlinks and endlink bushings, main bar u-straps and bushings, all brackets and nut/bolts and it weighed 17#.

I know how mine plows on a hard corner... hard to believe you could corner the car at 140mph without it.

You need to keep the back bar. That will be the only thing resisting body roll. For drag cars, you want to stiffen the bar to the point of preventing any kind of body roll at all. The BMR and Spohn "drag style" rear bars are simply god-awful heavy replacements..... my Spohn is 1-5/16 chrome moly.

Spohn "drag" style rear sway bar

Removing the front bar helps weight transfer. It allows the front end to come up easier, by decoupling the left and right front wheels. In the extreme, removing the bar, coupled with a limp rear bar will cause a launch that puts the left front fender a couple feet above the right front fender. The rear sway bar brings it back under control. But when you get to that point in launching the car, keeping it level and off the back bumper becomes more important than allowing the front end to come up fast.

Damn thats a nice setup! Looks expensive, but worthwhile. As I mentioned earlier I broke my endlink bolts out on the rear swaybar, would it help then to get the more expensive stiffer bushings for the stock bar for drag racing, or should I just go with the stock rubber units, I hate to spend extra money on something that won't benifit me
