Nice write up!

So you didn't have to clearance the inside of these valve covers at all?
they have a baffle in them, you shouldn't need to take them out (philips screwdriver required) but i did anyways

Re: For those seeking taller valve covers

SVT,

Do you think there is a Max on how tall a valve cover you can use?
My new engine is a solid roller with shaft mount rockers and I need to use a valve cover conversion plate under the valve cover.
I was looking at your picture and I didn't see any extra room.
Could more be ground off the alternator?

Thanks
Tom

Re: For those seeking taller valve covers

That about as far as you can go. After that, notching the cover or relocating the alternator are your only alternatives.

Re: For those seeking taller valve covers

I used this method to install the exact same Proform valve covers about a year ago and it works well.....engine looks so much better with those valve covers over the stockers and clearance issues will never haunt you again...

SVT,

Do you have any idea how much taller your valve covers are over stock?
I called T&D today about my shaft mount rockers and they say I can use a centerbolt valve cover.

I have been told I don't need that much more room for these to fit but I really have no idea.

Thanks

I dunno man. But I am pretty sure some shafts would clear in there. Its not just that they are taller, but that there's damn near nothing blocking or obstructing the rocker area in there.

Hey Tom,

I know we've been through this a few times... wish I could help more but I never had to deal with the LT1 heads/shaft setup. I see from the other thread that you've got the shafts. So, why not mock the whole thing up, check the height and see what you've got. My guess, just having dealt with shafts for years... is that you won't need much more height, maybe 1/4". But you can check to make sure.

A cardboard model (same dimensions as the stock valve cover) with an open side for visualization would work. Or be creative.

The valve covers look like they are between .25-.50" taller than stock. I can't remember though.

Re: For those seeking taller valve covers

thanks guys,

I put them together and it looks like it won't take much more height.
It looks like the main thing is the tail of the rocker is very close to the edge of the head so I might have to do some clearancing.

I was kind of hoping someone would remember so I wouldn't have to count on my creative side, LOL
The cardboard is a great idea. I'm hoping I can keep my alternator in the stock location.

Re: For those seeking taller valve covers

After reading this write-up again (an awesome write-up at that ), I have one question.... has anyone used the valve covers on Ebay:

I am still debating on valve covers when I install all the stuff below. They look nice but I would like to talk to someone that has used them, anyone?

Re: For those seeking taller valve covers

I think those valve covers are stock height but they are a good price.
They won't work for me

Re: For those seeking taller valve covers

The intake boot is from an Imp SS Lt1, they have a silencer up top instead of our donkey dick down low. BTW, nice pics and stuff.

Re: For those seeking taller valve covers

I installed the proform valve covers and they are taller and work/look great. A great alternative to the LT4 covers.
