Thinking about a cam.....

I hear alot of people do cam swaps. What is a good cam for our cars? I hear hotcams are good, but some dont like it because there is not enough lope for them. I would want a cam that makes decent power and you can tell the car has a cam. WHen putting a cam in, do you need any additional parts besides swapping the cams?

almost mandatory to upgrade springs retainers locks, a good idea to do valve seals while you are in there too

So how long should it take if 2 people worked on putting in a cam? I person good with motors, one not, just there for an extra hand? What kind of springs and locks and seals? Could you get me a webpage? Whats a good cam that people will notice and will make the car rumble.

if you'll be using stock heads, go with a comp XE 224/230 or 227/233

Other stuff you will need:

new timing chain, cam and crank gears
new hardened pushrods
valvesprings / locks / retainers
valve seals
rocker arms
guideplates

I'm sure I'm missing some stuff too. I forget what all I ended up having to buy.

Yep, stock heads. Just wanted to add this is a daily driver also. So will the 227/233 have a good sounding idle, like anyone could tell I definately have a cam? What kind of HP numbers would you guess with my mods? How long to install roughly? Could I get some part numbers and websites of everything I will need? How much total cost should this run around?

Also, how about some sound clips

No need for rocker arms.

Here's a site with a cam removal/install guide. However long it takes you to perform this is up to you. Some are quick about it, some not so much (like me).

If you don't have headers yet, you may want to get some. A cam wants to breath, stock manifolds want to strangle.

There's a 330/336 cam too also right? Do you think this is too big for stock heads? Spinner, any sound clips by chance? I would go with one of the bigger cams I can run on stock heads that would be good for daily driving. I'm 16, so a little extra lope won't hurt me anyways . Want a sweet sounding idle. you know. How much louder do cams make the cars?

The cam made the car a good bit louder, especially at idle. I had no issues with my cam and stock heads, stock TC & 3.73s

Where can I get all the parts and the cam from? Could you get me some part numbers? Do you think I would like the 230/236 or 227/233 better? So if you could get me some websites that sell these, that would be great.

Combination Motorsports is the place to call for the cams you listed.

I see 3 different cams of the 230/236. Which would I be best off with.

A) TN-230XL 230/236 duration, .544"/.555", 112lsa
B) TN-230HL 230/236 duration, .598"/.608", 112lsa
C) TN-230XH 230/236 duration, .622"/.624", 112lsa

or would I be better off with

D) TN-227XL 227/233 duration, .560"/.569", 112lsa
E) TN-227XR 227/233 duration, .560"/.569", 111lsa
F) TN-227XE 227/233 duration, .560"/.569", 114lsa

I want people to notice I have a cam and make good power. Big cams don't matter to me. I like them Soundclips anyone?

Also, how do these cam specs compare to the cc306 or cc305 cam I have read about? IS the 230/236 a pretty big cam for stock, plus some boltons?
