Think I made the right choice?
Think I made the right choice?
With the cam I went with?
I love its manners and power, but you think I could of went with a bigger cam and got more power of my stock heads/headers?
I made the numbers in the sig without headers, so i'm hoping for something like 350/350 after them,
Anyway, you think that I had much more room for power/streetability?
When I say streetability, I mean... little cam surge and lower rpms when cruising on highway or around town.

Re: Think I made the right choice?
I dont think youll see 48rwhp just from headers but 302 is a nice hp# to put down through stock exhaust manifolds. Horsepower is made in the heads and you can put as big of a cam in there as you want but the heads are only gonna flow so much so there is a ceiling on the power possibilities. I would worry about the heads before you start second guessing your cam.

Re: Think I made the right choice?
Sure you could have gotten more power with a bigger cam, but why? You need modifications on there to support a cam. You have a good cam in there that will make some nice power, but you are choking it out with stock heads and exhaust manifolds! Get some supporting mods on there for that cam so it can do it's job
Re: Think I made the right choice?
That cam is plenty big for stock heads.
You just need the right bolt-ons to go with it and a good tune.
I'm thinking that you should be running close to or better than 340 rwhp with headers, and a good tune. (if everything else on the car is working right!)

Re: Think I made the right choice?
i agree with dan , well pretty much everybady so far. but with the supporting mods such as good exhoust hopefully a good port job, and a better fuel delivery i would expect something close to what you want, or even a little better. wouldnt get my hopes up with just headers tho. and to answer your question another way if you throw a huge cam with unported heads all you have is a rougher idle, and may even lose performance. sometimes i think i should have gone with a little smaller cam becouse ive seen hot cam cars running quicker then me (230 236 112 xe) but i didnt have all the supporting mods yet so i was starving my car.

Re: Think I made the right choice?
Well, I pulled off at 5450 on the dyno tuned to a 114LSA cam.
Thats why I figured theres more in there as is now, then the headers would shoot me to about 350/350
Plus, Dave from CMS said that he's seen plenty of people with this cam and lt's reach 350/350. Thats why I guessed that
Headers are going on soon, I just got the cam first because I had a bad lifter.
