Are these symptoms of an intake gasket leak?
Are these symptoms of an intake gasket leak?
While on the dyno, my car smoked when pulling hard. It was a consistant greyish/blue smoke. The car didn't make the horsepower that I was expecting and actually started to pull vaccume at 5800 rpm's ??? I did a compression test and everything checked great. A couple of plugs had a good bit of oil on them. The car only smokes when you are really romping on it. Would an intake gasket leak cause it to pull vaccume at high rpm's like that? Thanks.
Re: Are these symptoms of an intake gasket leak?
Leaking valve seals could also cause you to burn oil. Do you know how old they are? It could be the intake gasket but IMO it would have to be leaking pretty bad for you to be burning oil. You could also check the PCV system.
Re: Are these symptoms of an intake gasket leak?
The valve seals have less than 1K miles on them and it dosn't smoke at startup. I actually just finished pulling the intake off. The gasket didn't look to good on a couple of the intake ports. Also three of the ports had a brownish tint to them. I think that I had oil leaking into three of my cyl.!!! Is that brownish tint those few intake ports oil residue?
Re: Are these symptoms of an intake gasket leak?
It more than likely is oil. The only other thing I have had that caused an intake port to darken was a back fire. But usually that is a very thin black soot.
Something elso I would look at though is the PCV system. If this isn't working properly it can cause excessive oil consumption at WOT.
