Re: Thermostat

Everyone is wrong.

180° is the stock thermostat for all f-body LT1s 93-97.

If that is true then why do a lot of people "upgrade" to a 180* thermostate?

Crap. Sorry about the bad info. I could swear mine had a 195 when I went to change it. Of course it could have been put in there by the previous owner.

Why would anyone need to if the stock one was already 180°?

Maybe you are thinking of 160°?

I didn't I'm just saying a lot of people "upgrade" to a 180* thermastate, that's why I wasn't sure.

Non-LT1 folks likely have the 195° thermostats and go to 180°s or if they are LT1 people, maybe they don't know it's already a 180°.

I guess not, I never knew that, but I also have never changed my thermostate so it's okay.

And to correct this error, stock programming turns the first fan (or low fan speed in the 95+) on at 226degF, and the 2nd fan (or high fan speed) at 235degF.

The LT1 has a "reverse flow" coolant system. As a result, it uses a lower temp thermostat than car with "conventional" flow cooling. Everyone else will most likely be starting at 190degF or 195degF, and looking at 180degF as an option. But not the unique LT1.
