Exclamation Is their any danger involved when switching to synthetic oil from regular oil?

Ok as you may have read my other post, I'm going to start using synthetic oil (odds are I'm going with Redline). But I heard that this is not a good idea if the car was ran on just normal oil for its entire life. My car has around 75K on it so far and as far as I know it has never been ran on synthetic oil. So is their any chance if I start running synthetic oil that my car will start to have exhaust worsen leaks (really don't get that one ) and smoke? Also I have heard that may car may even develop leaks around the heads and the intake? Is this stuff I'm hearing true or just a bunch of BS?

Thanks,

Chris

I believe it is just a fairy tale.

Back in the old days when some engines only used a non-detergent motor oil, they would have problems if they switched to the detergent type. That would be like giving your engine an enema, lotsa crap would get loose and come out. Maybe that is where such stories of switching come from. I dunno.

It has been known that when switching from regular oil to synthetic oil that oil leaks start to develope. My mechanic told me that if your car has been used to regular oil that you should not change to synthetic because it's the sneaky **** that tends to leak all over the place. Oil leaks are just a pain in the ***, and I don't think the extra 1-2 hp you will gain is worth the risk of leaks. That's just my opinion.

Its not a problem as long as you do not switch back to conventional. If you switch to synthetic continue to use it every time.
