the temp of the fan/is my car running hot??
the temp of the fan/is my car running hot??
is car running hot?, my two fans kick on at 3/4 of the temp gauge and it goes like almost to the middle when it cools down and when i turn the car off i dont hear any boiling so are my fans good .94 Z28 with 96 LT1 engine
Please don't start a new thread on the same subject as one you've already got going. You can "ttt" the original post to the top if you've waited 24 hours and did not get an answer.

the thread/reply
im sorry injuneer i didnt kno i thot if i just post my reply that i wouldnt get an answer fast so thats why i started a new thread my fault i won't do that any more dude
fan
so then im good then with the fan situation cuz i just wanna make sure they are working right i just bought a crate engine and i dont wanna ruin or mess it up. but like i just wanna make sure that its normal for just both of my fans to kick on at the 3/4 mark and then it going down back to the middle
If you interpolate between the marked temperatures, the middle line is 210*F, and the 3/4 line is 235*F. If the gauge reaches the 3/4 mark, both fans should be on. The fans are working correctly.
The question would be... why is it running hot enough to require both fan to run a lot?
Do you have the correct "LT1" style thermostat in the engine? Have you filled the coolant system correctly and carefully bled all the air out of the system? Is your radiator clean and operating at high efficiency? Is all the radiator baffling and sealing in place? Is the air dam in place? Have you checked the fornt of the radiator for leaves or trash? Are you sure the water pump pdrive shaft is installed correctly? Are the hoses rigid and not collapsing? Is the cap rated at 18psi and holding pressure? It the coolant level staying at the very top of the fill neck?

yea man all those things are correct i dont have any of those problems im using a 180 degree thermostat but like am i running the car ok like my temp goes down when i run the car it goes down to like the middle. should i switch to the 160 thermostat???but my temp doesnt go past 3/4 after the fans kick on it cools down.
My Formula never got past the middle line, even sitting in traffic on a very hot day. It ran cooler than that at speed. You shouldn't be seeing the 3/4 mark except in unusually hot conditions.
A 160* 'stat will not prevent it from reaching the 3/4 mark.... it will just allow it to run cooler if you reprogram the fans for lower on/off temps.

My Formula was bought new, and had a 160* t'stat and reporgrammed fan temps within the first year. 14 years later with an additional 525HP, I'm still using the same t'stat and the same fan temps. The only difference at this point is a Griffin aluminum radiator.
our my fans programmed wrong or do i need to reprogram them, i used to have a v6 camaro and the fan came on at 3/4 of the gauge too.i dont think i have that griffin aluminum radiator would that make a difference in my temp.

injuneer are the fans of the camaro and firebird different i think they are programed differently because i used to have a v6 camaro and my fan came on at 3/4 of the temp gauge..and likewise with my Z28 i have now it turns on at 3/4 too. ur formula which is a firebird, the fans come on at the middle of the gauge. i have a friend that has a 3800 V6 firebird he told me his temp doesnt go past the middle just like urs. so wat im thinking is are the fans for the firebird and the camaro are programmed differently?? thats wat my conclusion is and i wanted to kno wat do u think. thanks man.
