TDC and Lash

Hey everyone, currently the heads are getting worked on at the shop, in the mean time is it ok to spray fogging oil over the block and cover up with plastic bags so i wont see rust?

Now i didnt do anything specific to the crank the engine to a specific position before i started tear down when replacing the headgasket. Im reading about how to set lash on shbox's website (http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.html#adjust_valves) he mentions about each cylinder being at TDC. I have no idea how to go about doing this. I just thought it was going to be as easy as setting the valves to 0 lash, lube them up and putting the covers back on.

If the heads are off, it is real easy to see what the piston positions are. You can also see what the lifter positions are, too. See if your crank hub or pulley arrow is at 12 o'clock when #1 and 6 pistons are up. Then you can use the arrow position as a gauge when it is all back together. Of course, method #3 listed does not require you know anything about TDC. I think if you re-read all the info, you will be able to figure it out.

Mind if i take some pics and maybe you could help me figure out what positions which pistons are in?

Sure, easy enough, but there will always be two cylinders at the top at the same time. As long as you know which cylinders are which (if you dont, look here), it should be obvious. The position of the cam is what determines which of the two is actually at TDC (compression stroke) for firing. The intake lifter on the cylinder that is going to fire would have just gone up, then down and the exhaust lifter would be down, as well (indicating both valves closed).

Rotate it until 1 and 6 are at the top of their bores.
