TB bybass

When I do the TB bybass do I have to use caps on the TB. Or can I just splice the two hoses? Thanks for the help.

The vac caps on the TB are just to keep it nice and clean. I don't understand what you are referring to when you say "splice"...what are you splicing?

I'm referring to the "barb x barb splicer" that connects the two hoses.

Re: TB bybass

Well, trying to picture this--- but I know that on my 97 I merely cut the 90 deg. hose off the TB where it connects to the metal pipe comming from the heads on the pass side, disconnected the hose from the TB on the drivers side (and because the hose was long enough just hooked it to the metal pipe on the pass side....and then I just put a couple of 3/8 vac caps on the TB where the hoses used to be.

And now the coolant from the heads goes directly to the radiator for recirulation rather than through the TB thus allowing for a cooler TB.

Now if your hose is too short to reach back to the metal pipe from the heads, than get a longer hose or splice the hoses together for the reach.

Under no conditions would you cap the metal pipe, since the coolant needs to be drawn from the heads back through the radiator.

Not being facetious, just want to make sure we are on the same page.

Pull the hoses off the TB, connect them with the male/male adapter and secure it
with hoseclamps. You don't actually have to cap the ports. But it does look cleaner
if you do and caps are a few cents at any hardware store. Pick them up while you
are getting the adapter and hose clamps. (Don't spent $15 on a "kit" from Ebay, this is a $5 mod)

Re: TB bybass

I did this a few days ago, and did it for free. I had a piece of 3/8" copper tubing laying around that I used. Then just used the old clamp on one side, and got a new clamp on the other.

Re: TB bybass

I have a 97. I didn't know that one hose was long enough to reach the metal pipe. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Thanks again for all the help, I really appreciate it.

Re: TB bybass

You might consider putting a screw clamp on the hose---wouldn't want it to come off and Pi$$ on your opti. JMHO

You really need to add a "signature" with basic info about your car, like the year, model, engine, tranny and any major mods. Look at the confusion above with people posting info for the wrong year cars.
