Need advice on ignition issues
Need advice on ignition issues
I finally figured out why my car wouldn't start. I had a feeling it was the ignition system since I could here the fuel pump start and checked fluids and starter/battery were fine. Took the coil plug off the opti, came off extremely easily as well barely a touch actually. I saw the inside of the opti full of this white stuff and the ends of the coil wire had rust on the metal inserts. What could have caused this. I also get P0300 random misfire codes flying by all the time. I'm sure I need to do a tune up again even though the car only has less 10k miles since the last tune up. Car has about 100k on the odometer never changed opti as the car used to run fine. I sprayed some brake cleaner in the opti from the coil wire hole to clear out some of that white stuff and now the car runs again.
1. What could have caused all that buildup of white flaky/goo in the opti?
2. I notice the engine in general seems to be rusting for some reason and I live in sunny california, what could be causing this...grounding somewhere? Just the past 10k miles I've noticed this, prior it still looked new.
3. I most likely will need a new opti, get the MSD opti or upgrade to Deltech?
Mods in sig...have been battling random misfires for awhile now and I think these are the reasons I'm getting a misfire. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Sherwin

Re: Need advice on ignition issues
My stock coil wire turned to dust at about 40K miles. Common defect. I cleaned the opti connector and the opti was going strong at 108K miles (replaced it as part of an engine rebuild).
