taylor ovc wires?? help

i just came back from summit, i bought the jet hot long tubes last week and i was looking to buy the over the valve cover spark plug wires. the only wires for my LT1 were the taylor spyro ones. so i bought them for $50.00 are those long enough to run over the valve covers or do i have to buy a special universal kit and crimp them myself? if that is the case is it cheaper doing the universal kit or should i just run the wires i bought in the stock locations?

i want to dress up my engine some, and would like the OVC setup. do they sell a taylor kit with the clamps?

hmm, i don't think so, i think they are made to run in the stock locations. Everyone i know that has OVC wires used the taylor universal kit and cut and crimped their own, such as what i did. I'd say 90% chance the wire lengths are not correct..............

Yes there are parts that you can use to easily make a Taylor 8mm spark plug wire setup for LT1s. The LT1 kit will not reach over the valve covers. The 8mm universal fit wires are very long and will fit a LT1 over the valve covers. They sell 8mm optispark boots that will fit, just not 10.4mm units. Go to their website for part numbers.

The wires will cook without fire sleeving when going over the valve covers. Taylor also makes the cloth style fire sleeving which will cover you right near the spark plug. I recommend more sleeving (reflective or cloth/subliming type) above that up to the valve cover. Use heat shrink tubing to keep moisture out. They Taylor cloth sleeving dries quickly down by the headers, if they get wet.

As far as wire looms, I recommend a combination of Taylor valve cover mounts and "Made for U" wire looms to space the wires firmly between the Taylors and reaching down towards the spark plug. These are both good quality zytel type hardware.

Yes you will have to crimp the optispark boots on, which is no big deal. Use heat shrink tubing over the crimped boots to further strengthen them.

The main advantage of going over the valve covers is a reduced chance of cooking the wires and not having to worry that the weight of the spark plug wire will pop the boot off a spark plug (this happened to me when using Accel Extreme 9000 wires going under the engine). That was fun limping home when that happened, which is why I tend to overkill the spark plug wire installs now.

The universal kit should be about the same price, but you have to buy the optispark boots separately (about $12).

Good luck.
