Exclamation T-56 transmission

I have a 96 Z28 w/117k and the 6-speed transmission is thrashed. I need to replace the transmission and clutch. Is a T-56 6-speed tranny from an LS1 compatable with my LT1? What would you recomend? Is there a good package deal that includes an engine and transmission. This is my first car and I need to keep her alive since i worked hard for it and now i'm limited on funds being a student in colleg. I don't want to junk it because a lot of time, money, and emotion have gone into it. THANKS for your time, Rob.

No an LS1 T56 wont work. I believe the belhousing is different.

You can get a new T-56 for about $2000 or depending on what is wrong with it....have it rebuilt for about $1250. A clutch will run you $350ish plus install.

What is wrong with it? Are you sure the trans and clutch are bad?

Yeah, the tranny and clutch have already been pulled out by a mechanic and things didn't look to good. I don't know much about diagnosing them, but the tranny looked shot and the clutch was literally worn down to nothing in one section. The guy said that both probably can't be rebuilt, so now I'm trying to figure out an fairly affordable way to get my baby back on the road.
I bought my Z28 at about 70k miles, so I do not know how it was treated previously. Since I've had it I've taken it easy since it is my daily driver and because of gas. I usually gave it a good rip a few times a week whenever there was an opportunity for a nice kill; never been to the track.

I am selling a used T56 with 30,000 miles in good working order along with a new McCleod Street Twin clutch with resurfaced aluminum flywheel. I will consider reasonable offers.

if you have never been to the track, and have taken it easy most of the time...how the hell did you "trash" a transmission that is built to hold up to 450 lbs-ft of torque?? i think the tranny guy is trying to screw you.

there are many guys here with over 100 passes on their t56's some making over 400 hp...and others running these trannys behind 500+ hp either SC'd or juiced...

i'd get a second oppinion.

Well what made you take the car to someone to look at it in the 1st place anyway? What was the car doing? I 2nd the "he's trying to screw you" statement made previously. Definately get a 2nd or 3rd opinion.

I dunno if this is your problem but your slave cylinder might've leaked fluid and isnt properly engaging/disengaging the clutch. This happened to me not too long ago and I had the same problems. I guess the bleeder screw or something like that on the cylinder got loose and leaked the **** out. Just a thought
