syncros

has anyone ever replaced syncros on a stick? my dad's thinking about buying a 97 and if you try and shift to quickly from 1st to 2nd, it'll grind. does this sound characteristic of the syncros? do i have to pull the trans to change them? any help would be great.

Yes you do have to drop the trans..lol. The synchros are a pretty big task, but nothing that can't be done at home. The only intricate part would be shimming the endplay of the mainshaft.

I have the downloadable manual and the GM manual. I think the GM manual is the best of the 2.

Good luck.

If you're just doing synchros then don't worry about the endplay shimming. You aren't chaning any of the internal dimensions by putting these in. Just watch out for the "dogs" if they come out of the hub they fly everywhere. Good luck.
