Can I do anything wrong by setting my detent cable too tight or too loose? (93 Z28)

I think I need to adjust my detent cable for my 700R4 transmission. I'm pretty sure I know how to do it, but will it hurt anything if it is set too tightly or loosely? How do I know when it is adjusted right?

Thanks

Too loose and you'll burn up your 3-4 clutches. Too tight and it will shift harder and downshift quicker on WOT. I go too tight for a crisper shifting trans. If it doesn't make a difference when you adjust it, your cable may be stretched, a common problem. You can buy a new one or add a small split shot (fishing sinker) up at the end of the cable to give you more adjustment. Good luck.

Thanks a ton.

Just out of curiousity, would I be able to replace the 3-4 clutch pack? Or is that something a shop would have to do when beefing up the tranny?

sorry if its a dumb question
