Stumbles very very bad, o2 or MAF?
Stumbles very very bad, o2 or MAF?
I have a 95 z28 and I cant drive it right now because it stubles so bad that it feels like my engine isnt even running. My o2 is reading 1101 and like 88-90 on the other. This all just happend today on the way to work, never did it before. I'll start to excelerate and it just boggs and barley starts to move, then it kicks in and almost throws me into the cars ahead of me, then back to bogging. I have tts datamaster and I dont have any codes. The o2 that is reading 1101 stays like that for the whole drive even when the car starts to act normal, wich isnt for very long but still. I guess my question is would a bad MAF cause the o2 to read funny? PLEASE HELP, I dont have another ride to work tomorrow!
Re: Stumbles very very bad, o2 or MAF?
yeah, it sounds like a opti or spark issues to me. If you think its the maf just unplug it and see if it idles right. Get a water bottle at night and mist the wires see if any wires are arching
Re: Stumbles very very bad, o2 or MAF?
Bad MAF's/o2's will throw a code. I had a bad MAF which is similar to what you say your car is doing but I had a MAF and a o2 code and a new MAF stopped the stumbling/jerking. I think you may have a bad opit/coil or something ignition if you have no codes.
Re: Stumbles very very bad, o2 or MAF?
I checked under the hood and I didnt see any spark flashes and when I unplugged the MAF it ran just as bad as before. I just left my parents to drive back to my apartment and at every stop light it sounded like the engine was going to stall, it was idling at around 400 is my guess, it was so low it was hard to hear the engine. Speking of sound when i drive it my exhaust will be loud and normal for about 4 seconds untill it starts bogging then the exhaust has a low pitch hum and no matter how much further I push in the excelerator it stays about the same for speed and rpm. and then bam horsepower hits me like a bolt of lighting and the rpms reach around 4500If that helps for anything. I guess I will need to skip work and bring it in to a shop to have them check my spark and what not. Any other ideas please let me know.
Re: Stumbles very very bad, o2 or MAF?
Actualy this just occured to me, I live in florida and we just had a tropical storm. My fog lights and turn signals, "I have the clear kind' are all fogged up. Do you think condensation in the opti would cause my problems?
Re: Stumbles very very bad, o2 or MAF?
Probably water in the opti...........that's an opti problem for sure the way you just described. It's the same with MAF problems but OPTI's seem to have worse effects.
Re: Stumbles very very bad, o2 or MAF?
I doubt it got into your opti.
You are describing something that happened to me 2 yrs ago. Whenever I drove through a puddle my car would bog because the O2 sensor wires would get wet. Some electrical tape cured my problem.
You might also have wet plug wires.

Hmm I like that last post, makes alot of sense, I bet thats why my o2 is reading a constant 1101, well I shouldnt say constant, it went from 1101 to 1097 also, but mainly stayed at 1101. I guess I'll have to wait and try my car tomorrow to see how it does after everything has had a chance to dry.
