Question Stroker guys. What weight oil do you use?

Just wondering what the consensus is for you 383/396's. What a safe all around weight? It's been so long I can't remember what the shop recommended me. 3rd rebuild. I figure 10/30 dino oil unit I hit 3K then switch to mobil syn 10/30.

Thanks.

10W-30 is probably fine for most situations.

After tons of research, I'm gonna put my motor in this weekend and gonna run 10-30 Amsoil. I would run 10-30 synthetic in any brand except Mobil 1. mobil run apparently tends to run thin in the 10-30w range. Guys go with the 10-40w in Mobile 1. Don't quote me on it. Patman.....the oil researcher did a lot of study time on it. Do a search.

It's true, Mobil 1 makes one of the thinner 10w30s out there, Redline or Amsoil 10w30 is much thicker at 100C.

Depending on your clearances, you may want to step up to a 10w40 though, something in the 13-14cst at 100C range (a thin to medium 40wt) Many stroker motors also use looser clearances, hence my suggestion for something slightly thicker.

Thanks for the info guys. My friend runs 5-30 in his 383 which I think is too thin. But he gets away w/ it no problems.

Engine builder should specify the oil. I use 20-50.

I agree with Rich, Thats what my engine builder recommended for my set up and thats what I have been using but I am still using Dyno oil. So far everything works great with almost 20K miles on the motor.

Thx,
Claude

Depends on your bearing clearances. I use 10W40 as recommended by my builder.

I know my cars not a stroker but its got some mods , I run 20w-50 year round in all my cars and none have ever needed a rebuild although I can get away with that down here in nc cuz it almost never gets below freezing here . I like the oil pressure to be nice and high

I put Mobil 1 10-30 in mine. I'm planning on driving it in the winter here in Michigan and thought it was a good choice. I notice that you're in Germany. Is your car over there with you? If so, you lucky, lucky man. I'd love to cruise the autobahn and take on a few Ducatis and then smoke some MB's and BMW's at stoplights.
There's no substitute for pure raw US powerplants from stoplight to stoplight.

just an FYI, i know most of your engine builders told you what to use and i would follow them but for the rest of us, 5w-30 is the best all around method, 80% of engine wear occures during the first minute of driving. I doo reccomend Syth tho, I use M1 5w-30 in the winter and seeing that it is one of the thinner 10w-30s out there i use it in the summer. It seems to be working just fine, well that an i aviod FRAM filters like the black death, only use Purolator or AcDelco. But that is just me.

I was trying to keep it simple. 10W-30 is fine for most motors/uses. Mine is setup loose with a high oil pressure to cushion the bearings from a big nitrous shot. I use 20W-50 but the car is not used in cold weather and I never put a load on it until the oil is warm.

But 10W-30 is a good all around choice.
