strange intermittent miss that doesnt store a code

for a few hundred miles, ive had this strange intermittent miss.
it started when it warmed up. the car would miss and want to shut off like there was no grounds on the motor, but if you pop in neutral and rev it to past 3k, it will throw a CEL clear up, and you can drive it the rest of the way.
Shut it down, jump the 2 terminals in the aldl plug to get a code from it, and nothing. fire it back up and no CEL. and runs good.

this may happen 10 min after, drive or 30 miles after driving with shutting it down and back on.

one day it didnt start after sitting over an hour. motor was cool (below 160*). i banged on the MAF, moved the coil tires, made sure coil wire to opti was in/on, and moved the ground wire. fired up with a few misses. quick rev to 3k and it was fine for 15-20 miles.

a few days later when motor was cold driving down the street under 1500 rpms and it stalled. did the same 3 things and fired abck up and was fine for about 30 miles.

i went to get on the highway on monday and jumped on it more than 1/2 throttle and it was breaking up, kind of like it was cracking off limiter, i lifted, then got back on it and did it again, it shifted into 3rd and was fine, but CEL was on. drove it 25 miles and it was fine, sat for about 6hours, and on the way home (10miles), it acted up as above.

i took the maf off and sprayed it down with electrical cleaner yesterday and wiped the thermistors off with rubbing alcohol because there was dirt and junk attached to it. it was fine for the 15 mile ride into school this morning, but backing out of the parking spot after sitting for 4 hours, it fired right up and stalled. unplugged maf, and it fired back up. ran for 30 sec and stalled.
plugged back in, made sure coil wires were on and it fired up and ran fine all the way home 15 miles.

i am going to order a data cable so i can try and log it with tunercats and other free logging software. trying to get it into my old shop is being a PITA, so i havnt been able to get it on a scanner to see whats going on.

what do you guys think? i dont want to rule out the opti yet as it was replaced about 25k miles ago. (wp also replaced then too, and doesnt leak).

i think the coil is getting hot and starting to crap out, but i dont understand the point of giving it gas and it runs fine then.

i will check out to see if the other grounds are still attached and if they look decent.

car is a 94 ta, non vented opti, moroso CAI, vortec elbow, de screened maf. a4.

thanks

You cannot get codes that way on a 1994. You have to use a scanner or cable and software.

Tunercat is programming (not scanning) software. Freescan (free) and TTS Datamaster (free for trial) will work with the proper cable for scanning.

Sounds to me like you might have a poor connection somewhere. I would check out all the wiring and connectors real well.
