Stock Exhaust Removal
Stock Exhaust Removal
What is involved with removing the intermediate stock exhaust pipe for a 97 dual cat setup? I am ordering a loudmouth kit and want to remove my stock exhaust intermediate pipe without cutting it. I would imagine it is tough to pull out over the axle?

Under the car a little bit back from the tranny tailshaft you should see a clamp around the exhaust. Unbolt the clamp and start wiggling the exhaust. It should slip right out. At least.. that is how we removed the y-pipe on a friend's car. It should be the same w/ removing the old catback.
If you can get the car high enough and the rear low enough, you can get it out without cutting. You might have to remove the lower shock bolts and you might have to put the springs back in if they fall out, but you should have room.
I actually cut mine, but others have told me that they removed theirs without cutting.

Yeah, it's not possible without moving a few other things. Just cut it at the bend, because the loudmouth comes with a new one anyway right? I don;t think its worth the trouble when a new one wouldn't cost too much
i have the LM on my '96 dual cat.
i just cut the stock pipe right the bend befoe the axle. you can get it out without cutting, but youll need a lift and youll have to remove some other things. to me it wasnt worth it. if i REALLY wanted to put the stock stuff back on down the road, i could simply weld the spot that i cut at.
i did mine in my garage. the SLP is all bolt on. everything is done with clamps and the place where i cut the stock was already in two pieces on the SLP. i just clamped it together.
except that one place of cutting, everything is pretty simple to get ON/OFF and just takes some time/patience.
good luck!
