Steps to changing a rear main seal?(shoebox maybe)

I believe this is where my oil leak is coming from, I put my hand behind my intake manifold and ran it across the back and found no oil. My oil shoots out and covers my y-pipe if I run it hard through 3rd gear. My question is how hard/how much time does it take to change the rear main seal and does anybody have any pics/guides?

Well you have to pull the tranny then pull the seal out. Carefully tap the new seal back into the houseing and reinstall tranny. Its not that hard with the right tools and a tranny jack.

There is not much to changing the actual seal. Having to remove the transmission, clutch and flywheel is the biggest part. All you do is pry the seal out and put a new one in it's place.

Unless the seal housing gasket is leaking, there is no need to mess with it. The oil pan has to come off to replace the seal housing gasket. The pan does not need to come off to just replace the rear main seal.

****, I just had the clutch put in, woulda been nice to have that replaced then, how hard is it to remove the tranny, and does everything have to be aligned or something like with a tool?

Hind site is always clearer, but for anyone else, any time you have the tranny or clutch out, you should check the rear main seal for possible replacement. I'll let the guys that actually have manual trannies respond to the difficulties of the job. You will need a clutch alignment tool-no big deal.
