Dynatech LT headers are horrible!!!!!

Alright everyone I am going to give you my opinion on Dynatech long tube headers. They are a nice, quality constructed header, sound great, and give a good hp increase. But, spark plug access is a nightmare!!!! I just can't believe how horrible the spark plug access is. I have changed plugs on Hooker long tubes (easy), MAC shorties (very, very, easy) and SLP shorties (medium difficulty) but have never run into anything like these Dyanatechs!Cylinders 5, 6, and 8 with 5 probably being the worst are basically inaccessable with the header bolted down to the head. Plug wire clearance is also a huge issue, as the above mentioned cylinders wires' are sitting right on the header primary! To get the wires on/off you have to unbolt the header from the head....what a PITA!!! I am going to buy some of those Accel shorty spark plugs and use some 1200 degree boot sleeves so I don't burn any wires. Just a warning to anyone thinking of buying Dynatech long tube headers....do not do it unless you like to unbolt your headers alot and take a full 1/2 day to change spark plugs! Sorry, just had to vent and let people know about the hideous spark plug/wire access these headers have.

Re: Dynatech LT headers are horrible!!!!!

Same basic design as the FLP's, isn't it?

I run FLP's which do have very tight clearance on a few of the plugs. I've certainly never had to remove the headers for ignition work, and I've changed plugs/wires several times.

I run NGK plugs and have enough clearance between the boots and primaries to avoid any problems. The boots are MSD superconductors, fwiw.

There are a couple of plugs that at first were a nightmare. I modified a sparkplug socket to work with the tight clearance and things are fine now I Cut the socket down on both ends and even cut a slit down one side. With a wrench and this socket, removing and installing the trouble plugs is easy. A few have to be done blind, but anyone who works on an LT1 should be good at this!
