steering problems

for some reason, my steering is acting kinda funny. whenever i'm not moving, my car is really hard to turn to the left or to the right. once i start moving, it works easy. at a low speed, it's still relatively easy, but not as easy as it seems it should be. we checked my power steering fluid, it looks like it's full, but it was really hot when we checked it so we weren't sure if that's why it looked full.

anybody got a clue? thanx.

could be belt slipping or the pump on its last leg could be the R&P unit when my pump was going out mine did that...make sure no coolant is leaking on the belt anywhere

Sounds like the rack. If it's worse when cold and gets better the hotter it gets, I would bet the rack.

Make sure your water pump isnt leaking out of the weep hole and unto the belt. My power steering started acting up just like that when my WP went.

my harmonic balancer went on me, resulting in no power steering. (the center was spinning freely from the outside part).

it seems to stay pretty much the same whether hot or cold. it looked like i might have been leaking a bit of power steering fluid last night...

i checked the steering again this morning, and it's still doing the same thing. i'm not sure what the problem is, and i really don't know how to tell since i've never had a problem like this before. i don't want to just go replacing **** either cuz that's not a good solution unless you know that what you're replacing is actually the problem. i guess i'll just try and figure all of it out and get it fixed. any more info would be very helpful... especially if you guys know some of the prices it'd cost to fix the things you were talking about. thanx for all the help so far.
