Starter probs w/ trunk mounted battery

I was having a starting problem that kept getting worse until my starter just wouldn't fire when hot. I changed the starter and put a heat blanket on, but nothing worked.

Finally, I had my system tested and it seems I had a lot of resistance between the battery and the starter. Because I had the ground from the battery attached to the rear subframe, it was losing a lot as it traveled through to the front. Using the original ground wire up front to the frame was just not enough. My solution was to run a 2 gauge ground strap (same as the one off the battery kit) from my alternator (or anywhere on the block will do) to the frame. Now the car starts like a champ every time.

Just wanted to pass this along if anyone was having problems. Everyone here has been helpful, I just wanted to return the favor.

That is a common problem. People forget that the ground went from the battery to the accessory bracket, or the engine block and don't put a provision for this when re-locating the battery.

No problems here. I just eliminated that cable since the motor is grounded in many places to the body already. Checked it first with a multimeter then threw that cable out.

Are you guys running power from the battery to the front distr block or straight to the starter? I was running it straight to the starter and it was having problems starting every time. I got so tired of it that I bagged it for now and just moved the battery back up front, I want to try it again in the back later though.

The previous owner did the relocation, but I'm pretty sure mine is running to the distributor block. It's been that way for about 7 years, with no problems until recently (the ground issue).
